Realm Management Guide

Everything you need to know about managing your BingMMO realm

Managing Your Realm

Your realm is your game space in BingMMO. Think of it as your own game room where you control the rules, actions, and who can moderate.

Realm Basics

What’s a Realm?

A realm contains:

  • Your custom action pool
  • Game sessions
  • Moderator assignments
  • Settings and configurations

You can have multiple realms for different purposes (speedruns vs variety streams, different games, etc.).

Setting Up Actions

Actions are the core of your game. Players mark these on their boards as events happen.

Minimum Requirements

  • 24 actions minimum (for 5×5 boards with free space)
  • We recommend 50+ actions for variety
  • 100+ actions for the best experience

Action Categories

Organize actions by rarity to control game flow:

  • Common (70-80%): Frequent events that keep the game moving
  • Uncommon (15-20%): Notable moments that add excitement
  • Rare (5-10%): Special events that create memorable moments

Writing Good Actions

DO:

  • Be specific: “Mario enters pipe” not “Thing happens”
  • Make it observable: “Boss phase change” not “Getting nervous”
  • Consider timing: Mix instant and gradual events
  • Think about your content’s pace

DON’T:

  • Use subjective actions: “Good play” (who decides?)
  • Create impossible actions: “Beats world record”
  • Duplicate similar actions: “Dies” and “Death”
  • Make actions too rare: Players need achievable goals

Managing Your Action Pool

  1. Start with more than you need - You can always disable actions
  2. Test during real content - See what actually happens
  3. Ask your community - They know what they want to see
  4. Iterate regularly - Add new actions, disable stale ones

Moderator Management

Requirements for Moderators

  • Must have a BingMMO account (no guest moderators)
  • Must join your realm first before being promoted
  • Need to accept realm invitation if private

Adding Moderators

  1. Have them create an account at bingmmo.com
  2. Share your realm name/link so they can join
  3. Go to Realm Settings → Members
  4. Find their name and click “Promote to Moderator”

What Moderators Can Do

  • Start new sessions without owner present
  • Run entire games independently
  • Call actions with synced interface
  • Ban disruptive players from sessions
  • End sessions and declare winners
  • View all player boards and stats

What They Can’t Do

  • Edit realm settings
  • Add/remove actions
  • Delete the realm
  • Change other members’ roles
  • Access realm Discord webhook

Moderator Coordination

Multiple mods can work together seamlessly:

  • Actions sync across all moderator screens
  • Duplicate calls are prevented automatically
  • Everyone sees the same available actions
  • No need to assign who calls what

Session Management

Creating Sessions

  1. Name your session (optional - defaults to timestamp)
  2. Add stream URL if streaming
  3. Configure game settings:
    • Board size (3×3 to 7×7)
    • Free space on/off
    • Point values for combos

During Sessions

  • Active: Players can join and play
  • Paused: No new damage, actions still visible
  • Completed: Read-only, shows final results

Session Limits

  • Default: 1 concurrent session per realm
  • Prevents accidental multiple games
  • Complete or cancel before starting new sessions

Discord Integration

Setting Up Announcements

  1. Create a webhook in your Discord server
  2. Go to Realm Settings → Discord Integration
  3. Paste the webhook URL
  4. Enable announcements

What Gets Announced

  • New session started
  • Session name and join code
  • Direct join link
  • Stream link (if provided)

Customization

  • Toggle announcements on/off
  • Announcements go only to your server
  • No spam - only new sessions

Stream Integration

OBS Setup

  1. Get stream URL from active session
  2. Add Browser Source in OBS
  3. Set dimensions: 500×1080px (or adjust in realm settings)
  4. Position on your layout

Overlay Features

  • Live leaderboard (top 15 by default, customizable)
  • Recent actions called
  • Player count
  • Winner announcements
  • Customizable colors and opacity

Best Practices

  • Test overlay positioning before going live
  • Consider your background - adjust opacity
  • Hide overlay during breaks
  • Keep it visible during active gameplay

Troubleshooting

“Can’t create session”

  • Check if you have an active session already
  • Ensure you have 24+ active actions
  • Verify you have moderator/owner permissions

“Players can’t see actions”

  • Confirm actions are set to “active”
  • Check if session is not paused
  • Verify players joined the correct session

“Discord webhook not working”

  • Test webhook URL in Discord first
  • Ensure URL includes /api/webhooks/
  • Check announcements are enabled

Advanced Tips

Running Long Events

For marathons or extended streams:

  • Add 150+ actions for maximum variety
  • Include event-specific actions
  • Plan for different stream segments
  • Have backup moderators ready

Category-Specific Realms

Create separate realms for:

  • Different games you play
  • Various content types
  • Special events
  • Testing new ideas

Community Engagement

  • Let viewers suggest actions
  • Run polls for new additions
  • Share interesting statistics
  • Celebrate creative combos

Privacy & Safety

Realm Visibility

  • Public: Anyone can browse and join
  • Private: Join by invite code only

Banning Players

If needed, moderators can ban disruptive players:

  • Ban applies to current session
  • Includes guest players (by device)
  • Document reasons for transparency

Data Retention

  • Sessions stay active for 24 hours after completion
  • Realm data persists until deleted
  • Player stats are aggregated, not individual
